No injuries were reported at a fire that started in a large soybean dryer at Cargill in Wichita on Monday night, Wichita fire battalion chief Jose Ocadiz said.

Firefighters were called after 9 p.m. to check an appliance at 1401 North Mosley. While en route, firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the plant and called for more fire crews.

Arriving firefighters found the soybean dryer on fire.

“Initial fire attack lines were stretched but due to the smoke and heat conditions aerial operations were put in place on two (sides of) the building,” Ocadiz said, adding firefighters then shot water through the building’s vents. “Fire crews remained on scene all night and will continue to monitor the fire today. WFD is working with Cargill management and the fire is under investigation. All Cargill employees were accounted for last night and no injuries to employees or firefighters were reported.”
