One person died and another was critically injured Friday after a single-engine Columbia LC-41 headed from Wichita crashed onto a golf course in Albuquerque, New Mexico, officials said.

The crash happened at 11:44 a.m. when the pilot was “attempting an emergency landing” on Los Altos Golf Course, according to New Mexico State Police.

“Two occupants were on board the aircraft, both were transported to a local area hospital,” the state police said in a social media post. “One individual has been confirmed deceased, the other remains in critical condition.”

Albuquerque Fire Rescue said the cause of the accident is not known.

Based on flight data using the plane’s tail number, which was seen in a photo from an Albuquerque-based TV station, the plane took off from Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport at 9:22 a.m. and was headed for Albuquerque International Sunport Airport, according to Federal Aviation Administration information.

FAA registration information shows the plane belonging to COL4 TRAINING, which is a limited liability corporation in Wichita.
