Small plane flips on Kansas airport runway during takeoff attempt
A small Cessna plane flipped during a takeoff attempt at the Augusta Municipal Airport on Saturday morning. The sole occupant, a pilot from Wichita, was not injured.
A single-engine 2023 Cessna Skyhawk was attempting to take off from the south end of the Augusta Municipal Airport runway around 10 a.m. Saturday, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
On its fourth takeoff attempt, a report from the statewide law enforcement agency read, the plane began to track toward the left side of the runway. It continued to drift left until it entered a snowy area and overturned.
The report did not say why the plane was unable to achieve takeoff during its first three attempts.
Troopers said in the report that the pilot, a 40-year-old woman from Wichita, tried to center the plane when it began to drift but wasn’t able to regain control of the craft’s direction.
