The intersection of Pawnee (23rd) and 135th St. West is now an all-way stop.

On Thursday, the intersection west of the Dwight D. Eisenhower airport was converted from a two-way stop to a four-way stop. Previously, two stop signs on 135th — one to the north and one to the south — stopped traffic traveling on the roadway.

Brandon Zenner, a community relations specialist with Sedgwick County Strategic Communications, said the change was driven by rising traffic volumes and an uptick in crashes at the intersection.

In accordance with Kansas law, the driver who reaches the intersection first should be given the right of way. If two drivers arrive and stop at the same time, the driver on the right goes first.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office asked drivers to exercise extra caution as they adjust to the new stop, noting that the intersection tends to get busy with nearby Goddard school traffic.
