The people forced to evacuate their home Thursday after a gas leak in Andover have been allowed to return home, Andover spokesperson Megan Schapaugh said around 4:30 p.m.

About 35 people were evacuated from businesses and homes around the 200 block of East Central after a gas leak was reported at 2:24 p.m. A construction company working in the area struck a 4-inch gas main, she said, leading to an evacuation until the gas could be turned off.

There was no immediate danger, she said, but people who do not live in the area were asked to stay clear. The area was temporary blocked off while officials responded to the 911 call.
