Teen arrested after South Wichita shooting leaves one in critical condition

Wichita Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of aggravated battery after a shooting left one person in critical condition Saturday afternoon.

First responders were called to the 2600 block of West Pawnee near South Meridian around 2:40 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting at a nearby gun range.

Officers found a 19-year-old man inside a vehicle in the parking lot near the range. He had a gunshot wound to the back and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The 16-year-old was arrested soon after on suspicion of aggravated battery and underage gun possession.

The shooting remains under investigation.
