Bridge work will narrow this local north-south street to one lane for months

Traffic on North Tyler Road will be reduced to a single lane beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2 as the Kansas Department of Transportation tackles a $272,073 bridge project expected to last until November.

Work on the bridge, between West 37th Street North and West 45th Street North, is necessary to maintain its condition and extend its life of the bridge before more extensive work is required, KDOT says.

.Until early November, Tyler will be reduced to a single lane with traffic signals controlling alternating traffic.

Additionally, the left shoulders on K-96 in both directions will be closed, with a 12-foot width restriction on the highway.

The department is asking motorists to allocate extra time for travel and to use caution while driving in the area.

The project is one of many currently in the works within the city. Bridge work on U.S. 54 (Kellogg) between Broadway Street and I-135 is also ongoing, and also will be completed in November.
