The first day of fall is Friday, Sept. 22, and for many, Labor Day is a last farewell to summer. Banks will close to observe the holiday, but what about the U.S. Postal Service, grocery stores and more? Here’s what to know ahead of the holiday.

What grocery stores are open in Wichita for Labor Day 2025?

Thankfully for those planning on making a grocery store run Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1, most major retailers are open on the holiday.

Walmart, Target and Dillons are all open normal hours, while Aldi is open modified hours — closing at 6 p.m. Monday.

Costco is closed for Labor Day, while Sam’s Club closes early at 6 p.m. Trader Joe’s will be open regular hours, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Whole Foods will be open, while Natural Grocers will have limited hours, 10 a.m. to 6:06 p.m. on the holiday.

All Green Acres Market locations will be open normal hours.

What about the post office, trash & city buildings?

The U.S. Postal Service is closed Monday to observe Labor Day.

City of Wichita facilities will also either close or open for limited hours Monday. You can call the facility for a specific building’s holiday hours.

Hours for trash pick up depend on your trash hauler. Waste Connections, one of the prominent trash collection services in Wichita, will operate its normal hauling schedule on the holiday. Call your hauler for your pickup day.
