Wichita police officers responded to an officer-in-trouble call at West High School after a student knocked a USD 259 security officer unconscious during a lunch-time fight.

Two West students, a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl, began fighting, police said. The 17-year-old struck a USD 259 security officer in the head as they attempted to intervene, causing the officer to lose consciousness, according to public information officer Brad Wright.

Members of the Wichita Police Department responded, and the officer was transported to a hospital for treatment, according to Wright.

The 17-year-old was arrested and booked on suspicion of aggravated battery and simple battery. She was also admitted to the hospital “for an unknown injury,” Wright said in an email to The Eagle.

A 15-year-old male, who Wright said was not involved in the initial incident, was also arrested and accused of assault and resisting arrest.

“An altercation occurred at West High during lunch which resulted in increased police presence and the minor injury of a staff member,” Wichita Public Schools Chief Communication Officer Rachel Bell said in an email. “The Wichita Police Department responded to the incident and we appreciate their assistance.”
