Wichita woman killed in crash; Maize mom and 3 children injured, official says
A 42-year-old Wichita woman was killed in a crash Thursday evening just outside of Wichita.
Injured in the crash were a 26-year-old mom and three children, ages 4, 6 and 9, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Eric Slay said Friday morning.
Tiffany M. Jones (McKinney) died at the scene, Slay said.
The driver of the other vehicle, a Maize woman, and the children were taken to Wesley Medical Center with serious injuries, he said.
The crash happened at 5:04 p.m. at 29th Street North and 135th West — the same intersection where Sedgwick County Deputy Sidnee Carter was killed in October 2022. She was headed to a disturbance call when a driver ran a stop sign on 29th. Improvements have been made to the intersection since then.
Initial findings indicate Jones was headed east on 29th in a Dodge Dart and failed to stop at the stop sign, hitting the other driver, who was southbound on 135th in a Mitsubishi Outlander, Slay said.
“Impairment is not suspected and the investigation is ongoing,” he said in a news release.
Carter, 22, was headed south; the other driver was headed west. The other driver, Kelvin Burgett, pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter on July 25, 2025, court records show. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 12.
