Work on Kellogg south of downtown Wichita could slow traffic for months. Here’s details
Commuters on Kellogg south of downtown will deal with fewer lanes and reduced speeds until November for bridge repairs.
Starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 21, the Kansas Department of Transportation will close the two outside lanes of eastbound and westbound Kellogg between Broadway and I-135.
Traffic will be reduced to two lanes in each direction. The speed limit in the work zone will be 50 mph.
These ramps will also close:
▪ The eastbound entrance ramp from south Topeka street. A detour will direct traffic south on Topeka, then east on Lincoln and north on Washington to enter eastbound U.S. 54 at Washington.
▪ The westbound entrance ramp from south Washington street. A detour will direct traffic south on Washington, then west on Lincoln, north on Market and west on Kellogg Drive to enter westbound U.S. 54. Drivers needing to get on southbound I-135 should drive north on Washington, east on First street and south on I-135.
▪ The eastbound exit ramp to south Washington.
▪ The westbound exit ramp to south Topeka.
Work to be done on two bridges east of Topeka includes pier repairs, drainage improvements, column wrapping and the cleaning and painting of bearings.
Wichita-based Wildcat Construction is the primary contractor on the $1.4 million project.
