An 82-year-old Wichita man who died Tuesday when a semi hit his bicycle has been identified as Ronald R. Wilson, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said.

The accident happened at 9:08 a.m. Wilson was biking with his friends three miles south of Andale in northwest Sedgwick County.

Crash investigators say Wilson and a 37-year-old Hutchinson man driving a semi were heading north on 247th Street West. The semi moved into the southbound lane to pass Wilson, who turned into the path of the truck, the sheriff’s office said.

Wilson was pronounced dead at 9:34 a.m. after friends and first responders tried life-saving measures, sheriff’s spokesperson Branden Stitt said Wednesday.

“Investigators do not believe impairment played a role in the crash,” the sheriff’s office said.
