A 39-year-old Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office deputy is recovering after he was hit by the driver of a pickup Thursday night in southwest Wichita.

EMS took the deputy, who has been with the department since July 2023, to a Wichita hospital in serious condition.

“He remains hospitalized but is alert and has been speaking with colleagues and family,” the sheriff’s office said Friday afternoon.

The driver who hit the deputy remained at the scene.

The deputy was at a non-injury crash at K-42 and Maize Road at 9:34 p.m. The deputy was outside of the vehicle, investigating the crash, when struck by a driver headed westbound on K-42 at 9:56 p.m.

The driver didn’t have any signs of impairment, the sheriff’s office said.
