A woman died and a man was seriously injured Saturday in a two-vehicle crash in southwest Wichita.

The woman was identified as Lousina Kay Mishler, 78, of Clearwater, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Branden Stitt said Monday.

Authorities were called at 6:50 p.m. to K-42 and Tyler Road, just west of Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport, where a black Dodge Challenger and a blue Chevrolet Blazer had collided.

The Blazer had rolled and landed on its top. Mishler and the driver, a 78-year-old Clearwater man, were trapped inside the SUV and taken out by firefighters.

Mishler died at the scene. The man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, Stitt said.

The driver of the Challenger, a 24-year-old Wichita man, had minor injuries and declined being taken to the hospital.

The Challenger had been heading east on K-42 and was turning north on Tyler, while the Blazer was westbound on the highway.

“Most likely the driver of the Challenger failed to yield the right of way to the Blazer,” Stitt said of the crash.

Investigators are working to learn more about what happened.
