A 67-year-old man died and an 84-year-old woman was hospitalized Sunday after a house fire in east Wichita.

The man who died has not yet been publicly identified, and the relationship between the two is unknown.

Authorities were called at 9:54 a.m to a house fire in the 600 block of N. Belmont, near Central and Oliver, the Wichita Fire Department said in a Monday social media post.

A person driving by the house called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the roof of the home. Fire crews responded and arrived within five minutes. They were able to extinguish the fire, which was concentrated in the front of the home.

Firefighters entered the home and found the man dead in the living room. The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigators are working to learn how the fire ignited. The Wichita Police Department and Sedgwick County EMS also responded to the scene.
