Trooper identifies pedestrian fatally hit after losing cargo and getting out on I-135 in Wichita
Officials have identified the 69-year-old Goddard man who died in an accident on I-135 near Lincoln on Friday in Wichita.
Joel J. Troyer died after at the scene of the accident, which happened about 8:18 a.m. in the southbound lanes.
Troyer was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado in the inside lane when he “lost cargo and stopped in the lane of traffic to retrieve the cargo,” a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper wrote in a crash report. Troyer “exited the vehicle and retrieved the cargo before being struck” by the rear driver’s side of a 2024 Kia Seltos driven by a 34-year-old Wichita man.
The man and an 8-month-old girl in the SUV weren’t injured.
The incident was reported as a rollover accident. Photos show that the Kia landed on its roof.
