A decades-old Wichita primary care clinic is expanding into another building in west Wichita.

West Wichita Family Physicians, started in 1965 by physician brothers Jon and Stan Kardatzke, plans to open another building April 4 on its 17-acre campus just east of Tyler and Central at 8200 W. Central.

The 10,000-square-foot facility, dubbed “Building D,” is just across the parking lot from the main building. It will house primary care, lab and X-ray services, Peter Moyer, director of quality and operations, said in a phone call.

The practice moved to the campus in 1985, starting with one building that housed eight doctors. It has grown to a multi-building facility with 36 primary care physicians.

“The expansion was necessitated by increasing demand for primary care services in growing west Wichita,” a news release said, adding the clinic has “grown partly due to the fact the it can provide a one-stop shop for most primary care services.”

Services at West Wichita Family Physicians include a minor care clinic open seven days a week, hospitalist coverage, same-day surgery center, full-service radiology suite, lab and pharmacy. The clinic sees between 750 to 1,000 patients on a weekday, the news release said. It also offers preventive care services that include diabetes educators, dietitian services, a clinical pharmacist, wellness nurses and a hospital follow-up nurse.

The clinic plans to move nine physicians to the new building.

“Building D will allow us to incubate new ideas in a smaller setting that we can then spread to the rest of the organization,” Moyer said, “things like online scheduling or kiosk check-in can be tested and perfected with fewer people, which is ideal.”

SPT Architecture designed the building, which was built by Hutton.
