If you see a large police presence Tuesday at Century II, here’s why
If you see a large police presence Tuesday around Century II, don’t be alarmed.
Wichita police, along with several other law enforcement agencies, plan a large-scale training exercise inside the building at 255 W. Douglas Ave in downtown Wichita.
The joint training exercise will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is not open to the public, WPD spokesperson Andrew Ford said.
“Residents and businesses in the area may notice increased activity, including numerous law enforcement and public safety vehicles,” Ford added. “The public is advised that this is solely a training exercise and there is no cause for alarm.”
Agencies and organizations participating in the training include the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, Wichita Fire Department, Sedgwick County Emergency Management, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Sedgwick County Fire District 1, Sedgwick County EMS, Maize Police Department, Derby Police Department, FBI, ATF, Wichita State University and Via Christi.
“The exercise aims to enhance preparedness and response capabilities for potential critical incidents,” a WPD news release said. “It will offer realistic training for law enforcement, public safety officials, and community stakeholders on effectively managing and responding to such incidents.”
