A 56-year-old Wichita man died after being hit by a teen driver while crossing the road late Friday night in south Wichita, according to Wichita police.

The man died at the scene, Wichita Capt. Aaron Moses said. The 16-year-old driver stayed on scene. Police are still investigating who had the right of way and any factors that may have led to the accident, Moses said Saturday morning. The female driver hadn’t been cited for anything at this point in the investigation, he added.

Police were called at 11:30 p.m. to the 3000 block of South Broadway, which is close to 31st Street South.

The man was crossing the street from east to west when he was hit; the girl was driving south in a family member’s 2012 Chevrolet Impala, Moses said.

This is the city’s first vehicle fatality of the year, Moses said.
