Veterinarian determines what type of animal was found skinned in east Wichita dumpster
A veterinarian has determined that the skinned animal found Feb. 2 in an east Wichita neighborhood dumpster was a fox, not a dog, Wichita police Capt. Aaron Moses said Thursday.
Moses said he doesn’t expect any charges to be filed in the case.
The hunting and trapping season for foxes in Kansas started in November and ends after February.
Police were called around 8:35 p.m. on Feb. 2 to the 7500 block of East Rockwood, which is southwest of Central and Rock. That block is a residential neighborhood that also has a pool, playing court and parking lot. A Google street view from March 2022 shows a dumpster in the parking lot.
Shortly after the call, Sedgwick County Emergency Communications scanner traffic said that “animal control is requesting your assistance. They found a skinned dog in the dumpster.” Police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo later said “We have not been able to determine if this is a pet or wild animal like a coyote or fox.”
