Dental records and clothing helped identify a man whose remains were found Dec. 16 in south Wichita as 46-year-old Dion Elliott Curry, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Branden Stitt said Friday.

Curry’d body was found underneath a tree behind a closed business. There were no signs of trauma and no foul play is suspected, Stitt said.

“Detectives determined that Curry was homeless and known to frequent the Oaklawn area,” Stitt said. “He was a registered offender and last reported to the Sheriff’s Office Offender Registration Unit in January 2024. In April 2024, Curry was reported missing to the Wichita Police Department.”

Anyone who had contact with Curry between January and December 2024 is asked to call detective Michael Clopton at 316-660-5300.

Deputies were originally called around 6:10 p.m. Dec. 16 to the 4800 block of South Clifton about remains being found.

“The advanced decomposition of the body prevented immediate identification, including an approximate age or gender,” Stitt said in a previous news release.
