Drivers were still having trouble on icy bridges and overpasses mid-morning Wednesday, even after the area’s emergency accident reporting plan was canceled.

EARP, which allows people involved in non-injury accidents to exchange information and make a police report later went into effect Tuesday night as the icy weather moved in and then canceled at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

“Accidents are beginning to pop up around the area this morning especially on bridges and overpasses due to the freezing drizzle,” the National Weather Service in Wichita said in a 7:10 a.m. social media post, which had a photo of a wrecked Chrysler PT Cruiser with its hood up at the overpass at Kellogg and Dugan. “If travelling, slow down as roads are becoming icy in spots.”

Just after 9 a.m., accidents continued on highway bridges and overpasses, according to kandrive.gov. At that time, the two accidents still shown on the site were at the overpass on K-254 at 45th and Hillside and at the overpass at Kellogg and Maize.
