A shooting south of El Dorado on Sunday night has left one man dead.

Police responded to a call at 3946 Southwest Haverhill Road around 11:45 p.m. and found a man with a gunshot wound and the homeowner, according to Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet.

The homeowner shot the victim after an altercation, Herzet said, and is cooperating with police. The victim was pronounced dead and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning at the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center.

The man has been tentatively identified, but Herzet is not releasing any names because the victim was not carrying identification. “We’ve got to make darn sure it’s him first,” Herzet said.

The sheriff is looking for another man who left the residence before police arrived. Anyone with information should call the Butler County Sheriff’s Office at 316-322-4254.
