A man and a woman died after a vehicle lost control and rolled down an embankment Sunday along I-235 in southwest Wichita.

The victims were identified as 24-year-old Nathaniel Boyd of Wichita and 26-year-old Whitney Allmond of Clearwater, Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs show.

The crash was reported at 12:30 a.m. along southbound I-235, just south of K-42 in southwest Wichita. Both victims were found nearly 18 hours later about 6:20 p.m., according to the KHP.

The patrol said inclement weather was a factor in the crash.

The two, with Boyd driving, were heading south on I-235 in a 2002 GMC Yukon SUV during snowy, icy weather. The Yukon rotated to the right, left the highway and went down an embankment. The SUV rolled an unknown number of times and both Boyd and Allmond were thrown out of the vehicle, according to the report.

The SUV came to a stop upright next to a fence. Boyd and Allmond died at the scene of the crash, according to the KHP.

The crash happened during the first winter storm of the season in Wichita, where weather conditions made driving especially hazardous. A blizzard warning was active for Sunday.
