Updated: Wichita and regional attractions, services closing because of the weather
A winter storm making its way to the Wichita area Saturday is not only is expected to bring snow, ice and cold temperatures — but also closures.
The winter weather arrived Saturday and is expected to peak Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Saturday’s low is expected to be around 17 degrees Fahrenheit while Sunday’s is forecast to be around 3.
In addition to places closing, Wichita’s airport is warning travelers of possible delays and cancellations. If your flight at the Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport gets canceled, instead of showing up to the airport, the airport says to call your airline of choice and reschedule your flight. If your flight gets delayed, still go to the airport, but bring a refillable water bottle and a small snack in your carry-on in case it’s delayed more.

Botanica
While Botanica’s Illuminations was initially slated to have its last day Saturday, Jan. 4, the last day to see the holiday tradition will instead be Friday, Jan. 3. Both Illuminations and general day admission to Botanica (701 Amidon) will not be available Saturday due to the weather, the gardens announced in a press release.
There are four time slots to see Illuminations on Friday — 5:30, 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30. Tickets are available online.
Great Plains Transportation Museum
The museum (700 E. Douglas) — which is only open Saturdays — will be closed this weekend. Its usual hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sedgwick County Zoo
The zoo, 5555 Zoo Blvd., will be closed Sunday and Monday. Zoo leadership will make a decision by noon Monday on whether to open Tuesday.
