A 21-year-old died after being hit by a vehicle early Saturday morning in Wichita, police said.

The man, who was wearing all black, was lying in the road when he was struck, according to Wichita police.

Wichita police spokesperson Andrew Ford said Saturday afternoon that the circumstances of the fatality were still being investigated.

The driver stayed on scene, Ford said.

The incident was reported at 1:13 a.m. and took place in the 1000 block of South Oliver, between Lincoln and Harry. EMS took the man who was hit to the hospital before he was pronounced deceased at 1:57 a.m.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that a motorist traveling north struck a male pedestrian who was lying in the roadway,” Ford said. “Another motorist driving southbound on Oliver informed officers that the pedestrian was wearing all black and was positioned in the inside lane of northbound Oliver at the time of the collision.”

Police are not releasing the man’s name until family is notified.
