A 70-year-old man died Wednesday afternoon after a farming accident in southern Sedgwick County.

He was identified Thursday as David Humbolt of rural Mulvane.

Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputies responded at 2:06 p.m. to a farming accident in the 10200 block of S. 127th Street East, sheriff’s spokesperson Branden Stitt said.

“The caller reported that his 70-year-old father had been working on a large John Deere combine when a mechanical failure caused a fatal accident,” Stitt previously said.

Humbolt was cleaning the combine when a portion of it fell on him causing his injuries, Stitt said in a follow-up email. He died at the scene.

“This is a tragic accident and the Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the Humbolt family,” a sheriff’s office news release said.
