$10M headed to Kansas to help crime victims. Here’s how much Sedgwick County is getting

More than $10 million is heading to Kansas to support people who have been affected by crime.

On Wednesday, Gov. Laura Kelly announced that $10,289,285 in federal funding will be allocated to community-based organizations and local and state agencies to help crime victims and survivors.

“These services are vital to the well-being of Kansans impacted by crime,” Kelly said. “This funding gives organizations the ability to continue providing the assistance crime victims and survivors deserve as they stabilize their lives, navigate the criminal justice system and regain a sense of safety and security.”

Twenty-two out of 105 Kansas counties were awarded funding for 65 agencies. Sedgwick County and Wichita lead that number with 11 agencies, totaling to $1,767,382 going to the county and the city, according to a news release from the governor’s office.

Six agencies in Shawnee County received a total of $2,593,357, the most out of any other county.

The funding comes from the federal Victims of Crime Act. Funding will provide crisis counseling offered by sexual assault and mental health centers, forensic interviews conducted by children’s advocacy centers, the release said.

Other services will include shelter and transportation.
