A 48-year-old woman died after being struck by an SUV Thursday morning in west Wichita.

The crash was reported about 8 a.m. at the intersection of Central and West. Officers responded to the crash call and found Angela Carrillo suffering from serious head injuries after being struck by a tan Lincoln MKX SUV, Wichita police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said.

Carrillo, who is from Wichita, was taken to the hospital by EMS, where she died from her injuries, Rebolledo added.

“Police determined the victim was crossing West Street on foot, moving from east to west along Central, when the collision occurred,” a police news release said.

The driver of the Lincoln remained at the scene and talked to detectives. Police are interviewing witnesses to learn how the crash happened.

“The driver reported making a right turn from eastbound Central onto South West Street when she struck Angela,” Rebolledo said in a follow-up email.

Anyone with information on the crash is encouraged to call the WPD’s critical accident team at 316-350-3689 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
