Police: Wichita woman dies after setting herself on fire

A 46-year-old Wichita woman has died after dousing herself with gasoline and setting herself on fire in what is being considered a suicide, a police official said Friday.

The woman had been arguing with her boyfriend; they live in a mobile home park at 3200 South K-15, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. At about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, the woman was in a yard outside her home when she used a 5-gallon gasoline container to douse herself. She struck several matches and caught herself on fire, Espinoza said.

Her 47-year-old boyfriend saw it, and he and a neighbor put out the fire with blankets. An EMS crew took the woman to a hospital, and she died around 9 p.m. Thursday, Espinoza said.
