CPR done on man critically injured after being hit by vehicle in NE Wichita, police say
A 52-year-old man was taken to the hospital with critical injuries after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning in northeast Wichita, police said.
The man was initially reported as code blue, meaning he was unresponsive. That was later changed to code red, meaning he sustained critical injuries.
The driver stayed on scene and is cooperating, Wichita police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said in an email.
“Initial findings did not show signs of impairment” on the driver, Rebolledo said.
The victim was in dark clothing and not in the crosswalk, he said.
Police were called around 6:45 a.m. to the 8800 block of East 21st, which is just east of Rock.
The driver was headed west on 21st when he hit the man in the road, according to police and Sedgwick County Emergency Communications 911 scanner traffic.
CPR was done at the scene by someone who called 911, according to scanner traffic.
