12-year-old girl dies after being struck by SUV in northwest Wichita, police say

A 12-year-old girl died after being hit by a vehicle Saturday in northwest Wichita.

The incident was reported about 5:40 p.m. in the 7000 block of West 13th Street.

Police who arrived found the girl who had been struck by a Jeep SUV heading west on 13th. The girl was taken to a local hospital where she died, Wichita police spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said Sunday.

“The Wichita Police Department’s Critical Accident Team has been deployed to conduct a thorough investigation,” a police news release said. “Investigators are actively interviewing witnesses to gather additional information regarding this unfortunate event.”

The circumstances behind the crash are unknown.
