Former Sedgwick County deputy loses license for pointing gun at deputies, lying about it
A former Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office deputy was stripped of his law enforcement certification after jokingly pulling and pointing his handgun at another deputy and then lying about doing it a second time.
Adrian Perez was employed by the sheriff’s office from Jan. 11 2021 to Aug. 3 2023, according to a revocation order from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training, also known as KS-CPOST.
The Eagle contacted a phone number associated with Perez; he did not respond to a request for comment.
The summary order of revocation gives this account:
Perez violated the department’s sidearm policy when he pointed his firearm at other deputies in a manner described as “horseplay.”
Perez admitted during an internal investigation to pointing his gun at another deputy, but said it only happened once.
Conflicting reports from witnesses say he had done so at least twice. During a polygraph test, Perez again said he did not pull and point his firearm a second time.
The polygraph test showed Perez was not being truthful.
The Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training opened an investigation and determined that an in-person interview was required to see if Perez was fit to stay in law enforcement.
Perez did not show up for a scheduled interview and ignored multiple requests to reschedule the interview. He did not cooperate with the commission’s investigation.
