Father dies, son is arrested after house fire in Bel Aire
One man died in a house fire in Bel Aire early Sunday, and his 41-year-old son was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter.
Both men lived in the home, Sedgwick County spokesperson Stephanie Birmingham said in an email Monday afternoon.
A report of a house fire with a person trapped inside in the area of 5917 Flagstaff in Bel Aire came in shortly after 2 a.m. Fire crews found smoke and flames coming from a home.
Firefighters found a 67-year-old man inside. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to Sedgwick County Fire Marshal Brad Crisp.
The 41-year-old was found standing in the front yard with burn injuries, the Bel Aire Police Department said in a social media post.
He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, then released. He was interviewed by police and fire investigators before being booked into jail.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and an autopsy was to be performed Monday, Crisp said.
The home is considered a total loss estimated at $120,000, with contents estimated at $40,000.
