If you own a Saint Bernard, you have the rarest breed in Wichita, according to a new report.

The pet care company Rover partnered with Ancestry to find the most popular dog breeds in U.S. cities. The company found that in Wichita, it’s most common to have a mixed breed dog. The second most popular dog breed in the city is a goldendoodle.

The company found the results by seeing where breeds saw the most growth this year, based on breed data from Know Your Pet DNA by Ancestry, as well as a July 2024 survey that questioned 1,000 pet owners in the United States.

The top breed in Wichita mirrors the national data, which shows mixed breed as the most common in the country, followed by Labrador retrievers and goldendoodles a mix of a golden retriever and a poodle.

The Wichita results shared with The Eagle found that the Pembroke Welsh corgi is the most trending breed in the area, followed by the miniature schnauzer and the Pomeranian. The trending ones were found by measuring the year-over-year change of each breed.

Here are the top 10 most common dog breeds in Wichita, from Rover:

  1. Mixed
  2. Goldendoodle
  3. Labrador retriever
  4. Chihuahua
  5. Pitbull mix
  6. German shepherd
  7. Golden retriever
  8. Australian shepherd
  9. Shih tzu
  10. Yorkshire terrier

The company also found the rarest breeds in the city, which are:

  1. Saint Bernard
  2. Soft-coated wheaten terrier
  3. Rhodesian ridgeback
  4. Miniature pinscher
  5. Miniature American shepherd

A Forbes ranking from earlier this year ranked Wichita as the fifth best city for pet owners, taking into account veterinary costs, veterinary access and pet-friendly places.
