Authorities recover body of man from Arkansas River in south Wichita

The body of a man who appeared to be in his late 30s was recovered from the Arkansas River in south Wichita Thursday, authorities said.

Police responded about 4 p.m. the report of a body in the Arkansas River near the intersection of Pawnee and Broadway, Wichita police Lt. Brandon Lenzi said at the scene.

Several people who were in the area called 911 to report the body. Officers arrived and started searching the river and found the man floating in the water, Lenzi said.

Officers worked with the Wichita Fire Department to get the man out of the water. He was declared deceased at the scene, according to Lenzi.

His identity was not released.

No foul play is suspected and detectives are working to learn what led up to his death, Lenzi said.
