North Wichita commuters can expect more highway closures. Maintenance work will soon close two I-135 ramps starting July 2.

On northbound I-135, the entrance ramp from east Central Avenue and the exit 7B ramp to E. 9th Street N. are expected to remain inaccessible through most of July, the Kansas Department of Transportation announced Friday.

“It is estimated that maintenance on these ramps will conclude in late July, conditions permitting,” a news release states.

Motorists attempting to enter or exit that stretch of highway will need to find alternate routes. KDOT does not plan to post detour signs.

“It’s going to be one of those things where they’re just going to have to go over a street and hop on that way,” said J.B. Wilson, KDOT’s Wichita spokesperson.

The closures are part of a $1.7 million patching project from 2nd Street to 17th Street that’s being completed by Dondlinger and Sons Construction.
