A 15-year-old boy riding his bicycle died after being struck by a vehicle in a southwest Wichita neighborhood on Wednesday.

Daniel Collier was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries, Wichita police spokesperson Aaron Moses said.

Police responded at 8 p.m. to a collision call near 44th Street South and Hoover for a report of a juvenile being struck by a vehicle.

Officers found Collier injured and learned that he had been riding his bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 35-year-old woman from Wichita, according to Moses.

The woman was heading westbound on 44th Street. Police think Collier was crossing the street southbound before the crash, Moses said in an email.

“WPD encourages all drivers and pedestrians to remain cautious on the roadway as temperatures continue to rise and more people are outside,” a WPD news release said.

The driver is cooperating with detectives as they investigate the crash. Anyone who saw the accident or who has information is encouraged to call WPD’s accident follow-up unit at 316-350-3690.
