A 27-year-old Wichita man died early Monday after his car struck a tree in west Wichita.

Authorities are notifying his family, Wichita police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said Monday morning.

Officers responded at 1:58 a.m. to a single-vehicle crash near Central and McLean and found a Hyundai Sonata involved in the wreck. The man was pulled out of the car by the Wichita Fire Department. He died at the scene, according to Rebolledo.

Investigators learned that he was heading east on Central when he lost control, became airborne and struck a tree. He was alone in the car.

“Speed appears to be a contributing factor, and impairment is being investigated pending toxicology results,” Rebolledo said in an email.
