The bodies of two campers were recovered from Lake Afton late Sunday morning after the men were reported missing overnight.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a possible drowning shorty after 1 a.m. after campers reported two people going in the water, SCSO Sgt. Joseph Slaughter said.

The Sedgwick County Fire Department responded to the scene, but rescue efforts were paused due to severe weather that impacted the area.

Divers were called in and the bodies of two men, one in his 20s and the other in his 30s, were pulled from the water at 11 a.m. They were pronounced deceased at the scene, according to Slaughter.

Their identities were not released and the relationship between the two is unknown. Slaughter said the men were camping at Lake Afton.

Lake Afton is a 258-acre lake 21 miles southwest of Wichita in Sedgwick County.
