5 earthquakes near Crescent, Okla., shake Wichita area

Earthquakes shook the Wichita metropolitan area again and again Monday afternoon and evening, prompting social media to erupt with surprise.

The first jolt came in at a magnitude of 4.0 at 12:49 p.m.

A second jolt, which was measured at 4.5, struck at 1:12 p.m.

A third tremor measuring 2.5 was recorded at 4:07 p.m.

Then came a fourth – a 3.2 at 7:24 p.m. – and a final jolt at 8:18 p.m. that measured 4.1.

All of the quakes were centered north-northeast of Crescent, Okla., about 130 miles south of Wichita, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
