A 16-year-old boy died after the motorcycle he was riding struck a car in southwest Wichita on Sunday.

The incident occurred about midnight in the 6800 block of west 55th Street South, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said.

Remone Fareed Halabi was westbound on 55th on a black 2003 Suzuki motorcycle. A red 2013 Nissan 370Z driven by a 26-year-old man was also heading west.

As the Nissan began turning left into a driveway, Halabi attempted to pass the Nissan and struck the drivers’ side of the car, according the sheriff’s office.

Arriving deputies found a bystander performing CPR on Halabi. Sedgwick County EMS arrived and began life-saving measures but Halabi died at the scene from his injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

A GoFundMe said Halabi was from Haysville and had three sisters and a step-brother.

“This sudden and tragic loss has impacted his family so greatly already and the unexpected expenses will only compound that grief,” the fundraiser said. “We are setting up this account to help them get through this time with a little more ease.”

The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information on the crash is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office patrol division at 316-660-3760.
