Wichita police K-9 who visited thousands of schoolkids dies from cancer
Odin, a 6.5-year-old Wichita Police Department K-9, died Friday morning after a bout with cancer while surrounded by his handler and his family.
The Belgian Malinois recently started having health issues and it was discovered he had cancer.
Odin started with the WPD in spring 2019. He and his handler, officer Brandon Faulkner, were responsible for or assisted in the seizure of 163 pounds of drugs and 34 illegal firearms.
Additionally, Odin “apprehended 61 violent, felony suspects (most of those suspects were apprehended using no force),” WPD said Friday.
“Officer Faulkner and PSD Odin spent a lot of time in the community,” the police department said. “Thousands of kids have seen Odin in their classrooms during one of the hundreds of K-9 demonstrations they have performed. PSD Odin will be greatly missed.”
