Sword brandished and dogs shot in neighbor quarrel in south Wichita
An incident between neighbors in south Wichita involved a sword, a gun and two dogs being shot, police said.
One pit bull had minor injuries, police said. They were unsure of the condition of the other. The owners rushed the dogs to a veterinarian after the shooting around 11:33 a.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of East Galena, which is in between Broadway and Hydraulic and near MacArthur.
Arrests could be made in the future, police Lt. Aaron Moses said.
“At this point in the investigation there are conflicting statements about what occurred and claims of self-defense/defense of others,” Moses said in an email. “We are continuing the investigation to locate any independent witnesses or video footage to understand exactly how everything occurred.”
Initial reports were that a 39-year-old man’s pit bulls attacked a neighbor’s Yorkies and were then “threatening her children” when the man came outside with a sword, according to a police report and Moses, who said the other neighbors were a 61-year-old woman and two 16-year-old boys.
This was happening in the front yards.
Shots were fired and hit the two pit bulls. Police are investigating who fired the shots.
The Yorkies were not injured by the pit bulls, police said.
Moses said there aren’t any previous reports of incidents with the neighbors. He said the sword has been recovered by police.
