Wichita man dies after SUV flips and is struck by another car along Kansas Turnpike

A 52-year-old Wichita man died after losing control of an SUV, which flipped then was struck by another vehicle along the Kansas Turnpike on Saturday.

Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs identified the man as Mario Alberto Gonzalez-Cuellar.

The crash was reported shortly before 10 p.m. on northbound I-35 at mile marker 23.9 in Sumner County, south of Sedgwick County, according to a crash report.

Gonzalez-Cuellar was heading north on I-35 in a 1999 Ford Explorer when it went off the right side of the road, over-corrected, struck a barrier wall and overturned, the KHP said.

A 2014 Toyota Corolla struck the SUV. Gonzalez-Cuellar died at the scene. His passenger, a 60-year-old Wichita man, was taken to Wesley Medical Center with minor injuries, the KHP added.

The driver and passenger in the Corolla, a 66-year-old man and 72-year-old woman, both from Wichita, were taken to Wesley for minor injuries.
