One man died in a crash between a motorcycle and a Hummer SUV near Spirit AeroSystems on Wednesday.

A portion of MacArthur stretching from Oliver to K-15 will be closed for the next few hours as authorities map out how the crash happened.

A 911 call came in at 11:50 a.m. reporting the crash in the 4400 block of E. MacArthur, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Steve Olsen said at the scene.

The motorcycle was heading east on MacArthur. The SUV, which had two people inside, was heading west on MacArthur. The vehicles collided when the SUV was attempting to turn into a parking lot, Olsen said.

The man on the motorcycle was given aid by first responders. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The two people in the SUV were not injured, according to Olsen.

The accident happened just before the lunch hour and multiple people saw it and are being interviewed by authorities. It’s unclear who had the right-of-way or if speed was a factor in the accident, Olsen said.

The identity of the man who died has not been released. He is believed to be in his mid-20s. It is not known if the people involved in the accident were Spirit employees, Olsen added.

“I believe the Hummer driver may have been [an employee] or was dropping a passenger off here at the facility,” Olsen said. “Maybe, it could be, we just don’t know right now.”

“I know with airline manufacturers they’re going to have a shift change real soon, so that’s going to cause a lot problems with traffic,” Olsen said. “If we have to keep the roadway locked down we will do that so that we can get everything we need to give a proper investigation... we’re working as fast as we can.”
