Wichita pilot has minor injuries after emergency landing near Towne West, officials say
A 27-year-old Wichita pilot had minor injuries after she had to make an emergency landing Friday night near Towne West Square, police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said.
Just before 7 p.m., emergency officials were called to the 400 block of South Tracy after engine failure caused the pilot to make an emergency landing in the street, Rebolledo said. She was the only occupant in the Cessna 172, a small, single-winged aircraft.
A couple street signs were bent by the plane, which had some damage to the wings, Rebolledo said. The plane came to a stop near Tracy and Taft, partly in the road and partly on the grass in front of Southwest National Bank.
The pilot, whose name has not been released, was flying from Jabara Airport to Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport when the engine problems occurred.
