Wichita police are investigating a crash that left a man dead Saturday in north Wichita.

The single-vehicle accident was reported at 7:23 p.m. in the 700 block of East 17th Street, near Broadway. Officers arrived and found a black Nissan Sentra with the driver inside unconscious, Wichita Police Department spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said in a news release.

The man, who police are working to identify, was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, Gupilan said.

A preliminary investigation showed that the Sentra was eastbound on 17th Street when the car lost control and struck a utility pole, the news release said.

Speed and impairment are thought to be factors in the crash, Gupilan said.

Anyone with information on the crash is encouraged to call call WPD Detectives at 316-350-3686, the See Something Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282, or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.

This is the 25th traffic fatality for this year, Wichita police said.
