A Wichita police officer was rushed to the hospital Saturday afternoon after being involved in a two-vehicle collision near downtown Wichita.

The crash was reported at 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Kellogg and Main near the Kellogg exit ramp, a Sedgwick County Emergency Communications supervisor said.

An officer had spotted a reported stolen truck and initiated a pursuit that lasted about five seconds, Wichita police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said over the phone.

As a result of the chase, a pickup truck collided with a Wichita police patrol vehicle at the intersection. An Eagle reporter at the scene of the crash saw that the passenger side of the police patrol vehicle had been hit.

The officer was taken to a hospital with serious injuries but later was in stable condition, according to Rebolledo.

The three people in the truck suffered minor injuries, the supervisor said.

The truck, right next to the crashed patrol vehicle, was a newer model gray F-150 that had front-end damage.

It is unclear if the patrol vehicle hit was the officer who initiated the pursuit or if the truck involved in the crash was the suspect vehicle.

Rebolledo did not know if anyone was in custody. The Kansas Highway Patrol is leading the investigation of the crash.
