Wichita woman, former college soccer player, killed in accident on I-235
A 22-year-old Wichita woman who played soccer at Heights High School and then Pratt Community College died in a two-vehicle accident late Thursday on I-235.
Kassandra A. Ramos died at the scene, a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper wrote in a crash report. The 38-year-old Newton woman in the other vehicle had suspected minor injuries.
The accident was reported at 10:44 p.m.
Ramos was in a 2013 Suzuki SX4 driving north on I-235. She was in the right lane.
“For an unknown reason, (she) crossed the median to the left and was struck by (the other driver) on the right side in the Southbound lanes,” a trooper wrote in the crash report.
The other driver was in a 2016 Jeep Wrangler.
Ramos played three seasons as a midfielder at Pratt Community College. As a junior at Heights, she received honorable mention in The Eagle’s 2018 all-league team.
She celebrated her 22nd birthday last month, according to social media. In June, she posted photos on social media with her significant other, saying: “Life’s been very good to us lately.”
A family member who asked not to be named said she was loved by many.
“She was a wonderful person and wanted to explore the world,” the family member said in a message. “She was a kind and generous person who always put others before (herself).”
